A great excuse to get out, have a cocktail or six, and socialize with friends. Oh, and talk about a great book.
Almost everything is more fun when shared with friends, especially books. If you are among the uninitiated that have never hosted or attended a book club, here is a crash course for an enjoyable night with friends:
Rule #1. Read a really good book
Rule #2. Meet up to talk about the book. What you liked or didn't like, why that one character was an asshole, which characters remind you of your spouse, why that character just won't clean out the microwave when he makes a mess, why the other character doesn't ever take her used coffee pod out of the Keurig or refill the water reservoir...you know, whatever comes to mind.
Rule #3. Make sure everyone is clear on who is bringing the food and drink because, you know...who doesn't like food and drink?
Rule #4 (optional): Have a ready made excuse for why you're late in getting home, smelling like [insert favorite noun here]. It is much easier to come up with one before book club than in the hazy aftermath.
Not too difficult, right? To facilitate an even better book club, download the reading guide below. You could be ambitious and discuss the entire book in one meeting, but why rush? The reading guide is organized by chapter groups, so if you prefer a more relaxed approach - and more book club meetings - viola! Just make sure you are clear on Rule #3 and everything else will work itself out.
